Most places are safe. They have to have a decent health inspection score to stay open. They're checked pretty frequently so most places, you don't have anything to worry about. However, at least in my town, 9 times out of 10, the low scores from the health inspections are either Chinese or Mexican restaurants so you kind of have to be careful with them. The ones that get the low scores aren't the chains, they're more like "mom and pop" restaurants.

As safe as anything is these days!
Sit near an exit in case a rabid dog enters, avoid tables by the bathroom in case of drunken patrons and choose an establishment that has good reviews.
Choose food that is cooked well if you are still nervous - no oysters or steak tartare!
Ask the waitress to cut your food and then remove sharp knives, and drink carefully so as not to choke.
Otherwise, enjoy yourself!

I don't eat out often, and I've never gotten ptomaine poisoning at home. I got it once at a Cub Scout picnic and twice at restaurants. The first restaurant was a local pizza place where I ate a meatball sub and the second one was a major fast food place where I ate a roast beef sandwich. The pizza place had a fire and closed permanently and the roast beef sandwich chain went out of business. My den mother fed me hot dogs. They must have been really old. Hot dogs are pre-cooked and full of preservatives.

A professional kitchen in any reputable establishment is probably safer to eat in than your own house. Kitchens are inspected regularly, by Law, by trained professionals who know what to look for. Also, you legally have the right to inspect the kitchen of any restaurant you eat at for yourself. If the management refuses you permission to see the kitchen, don't eat there.

Most places are pretty safe. Look at the staff, not just the people who are cooking, but all of the staff.

Not Very! Usually no one gets sick but I used to work for a linen company and occasionally I would have to ride out with the guys to get to know the management and it was scary what we found in some of those kitchens. Gross!
There was one restaurant that left it's butter out and when it got flies in it that died, they took them out and used the butter anyway!
Be choosy in choosing restaurants, believe me.

Before you eat outside look at the location of the restaurant. If the environment there is dirty, look at the other place where it is clean. Hope you like my answer tnx.

It depends on the restaurant, the location, they type of food they serve, and if you can see them preparing it in front of you or not.
