I personally own a golden retriver, and he is seven years old. He still does this in his sleep, as he did when he was a puppy. It depends what you mean by agitated. If you mean he stirs and whimpers, I would say it's very usual, and he should quit after about five minutes of starting. If you mean agitated as in he is a picky sleeper, i would say put him in a more quiet sleeping envoirment. If he doesn't stop stirring after five minutes, PLEASE email me. Don't worry he isn't sick or anything, but i do believe golden retrievers do this a lot
hope it helped, if you have any question on dogs, breeding, or caring tips and info: glowgooch62@yahoo.com

I have a rescue, I know she was abused before I got her by the reaction i got when I raised my voice at her when she went inside She yelled worse then ten babies she still has these dreams
Just pet him gently and say his name asking if he is ok without trying to wake him
As 12 years later she still has bad dreams

It's probably dreaming..lol..Mine runs, moans, sucks her tongue, wags her tail, twitches her nose, and every now and then lets out a bark (which usually wakes her up). If your puppy has any other problems (while awake), have it checked by your Vet.

Some dogs grumble, make weird sounds and shake during deep sleep, all of my dogs have done this all their lives. If you are concerned call your Vet.

He is chasing things in his dreams - my pups move their legs, whimper quietly, yelp and growl softly while they sleep sometimes (not all the time).

Pups like babies move in their sleep to exercise their growing bodies.
