Goliath was a Philistine and a hugh warrior. They were at war against Israel (King Saul) and because of his size and strength, all the army of Israel were afraid. David, a young boy, took up the gauntlet to fight against Goliath because no one else would (too frightened by Goliath's strength and size). David, though small in stature and just a boy, did not fear Goliath because he knew who his God was and that his God was greater than Goliath.

For details of what happen, please get a bible and read up in 1 Samuel.

it's possible that he was somehow related to the Nephilem mentioned in Gen. 6.
Also if you turn to 2 Samuel 21:15-22 you will read of why David picked up 5 stones instead of just one when he was young...There was not 1 giant (Goliath) there were 5 giants...Goliath and his brothers. (I think it was his brothers) I got to read it again to be sure.

David was a Hebrew.
(Modern day Palestinians versus Israelis).
If you go to my 360 page & click on pix of "Israel & Jordan", picture #26 shows the exact location where David slew Goliath.

The giant from the city of Gath, champion of the Philistine army, who was killed by David. Goliath towered to the extraordinary height of six cubits and a span (2.9 m; 9.5 ft). His copper coat of mail weighed 5,000 shekels (57 kg; 126 lb) and the iron blade of his spear weighed 600 shekels (6.8 kg; 15 lb). (1Sa 17:4, 5, 7) Goliath was one of the Rephaim; he may have been a mercenary soldier with the Philistine army.—1Ch 20:5, 8;

1 Samuel 17 tells the story.
Goliath was a Philistine, and the Philistines were at war with Israel. The battle took place in the Ellah Valley in Israel.

Shrek. Actually David was a punk that went around knocking out the neibghbor's windows and Shrek crushed him. They lied and made up the story of David slaying Shrek to make him seem like a good guy. David was a real punk and ended up in juvenile detention centers and foster homes. Eventually he was shot by a slingshot robbing a bagel store. He died in jail from an STD.
