Rice and vegetables, the same food i would give to any monk. The point of alms food is not pleasure, growth, greed or even health. Alms food is given and eaten to remove the feeling of hunger so that a monk might continue to meditate without the pain of hunger interrupting him.
In Theravada Buddhism monks are forbidden from eating ten kinds of meat; human, horse, snake, leopard, elephant, dog, lion, tiger, bears and hyenas but can choose whether they eat other meats or become vegetarian.
In Mahayana Buddhism it is believed that eating meat is linked to spreading fear and death so in general Mahayana Buddhists are vegetarian and must also refrain from eating root vegetables as that too is killing plant life.
In general though, Buddhist monks accept any food given unless:
"it is seen or heard or suspected that a living being has been purposely slaughtered for the eater; these, Jivaka, are the three circumstances in which meat should not be eaten"

Buddha only ate whatever was given to him, so he would have eaten spaghetti if offered. Now, unless he's hanging around waiting for us to catch up, the good teacher is gone, gone, all the way gone. I believe that was his intention.
The fat guy you all think is Buddha, is not Buddha. That is Hotei. Not Hotie, not Buddha, but Hotei. Soon there will have to be some ritual ingestion of useless calories whenever one of you says Buddha is the "fat guy". I like sake. What say you all?

I don't know about "the great Buddha", but if he's like the "Happy Buddha" statues I see in Chinese restaurants, I'd give him a salad and a Weight Watchers flyer lol

The guy frequently fasted, so, if I could get him to eat, spaghetti and grog sound like the best possible choices... He was after all "the enlightened one", he would obviously know of the FSM in his contemplations of the universe, he simply wouldnt've thought it mattered too much.

BTW- He was thin. Emaciated, actually.
The "fat Buddha" image came about as Buddhism blended with traditional Chinese religions, which included images of fat happy bald gods.
It's not unlike how Christianity was shaped by adding assorted pagan European beliefs to it.
