okay, so i just got a credit card, and i am a teenager in High school (grade 10). This is a normal credit card, mastercard. I was wondering when i use it (at restaurants, malls etc), do i just show them my school ID? i don't have a DMV ID (no drivers license). Will they accept my student ID as a form of verification? anybody with personal experience with this, your input would help!!!

Student ID should work but a Passport would work great!

Are you planning on paying off this credit card every single month? BEWARE the use of credit cards! I see people everyday who are in PILES of credit card debt. Trust me. They are not enjoying it, and it has robbed them of their ability to build wealth.

No moving money to your Capital One card won't help you just yet. You just need to pay as much as you possibly can towards your Bank of America card every month and do not use it at all. Clip coupons, downgrade your cable or cell phone package, eat mac and cheese a couple nights a week. You'll be surprised how much extra money you will have to put towards your credit card bill. That's the best way to pay it down. About the Avon account. It's time to talk to your mom. Tell her you need her to pay that off NOW it hurting your credit especially if they are calling you b/c she is late paying. You can also call Avon and see if you can be taken off the account you may need your mom's permission to do this but if you can you should and soon.

I don't know if they will take your student ID seriously, probobly not. I doubt it is an actual credit card, perhaps you have a checkcard, or a prepaid card? In any case, you may want to go to the DMV and get an ID card, not a driver's licence, but just an ID. Hope this helps.

I've been using my credit card a couple times a month at all sorts of stores, gas stations, movie theaters, etc. for the last 18 months and have never once been asked for an ID. As long as you sign you card on the back and they can compare you signature when you sign the receipt you should be okay.

Unfortunately not many places requests Id's... maybe because you are so young you may be asked to show something so yes, your school ID should be sufficient... Some places tend to be a little stricter and may need a state ID... So go to the nearest DMV and get a state issued ID.

???

The card has a parent's name plus yours, I would assume?

Typically credit companies refuse to give cards to minors since someone under 18 normally can not legally sign a contract without a parent's permission.

In any case, a school ID would generally NOT be accepted as it is not issued by the state/province, but the school itself.

Anyway...be *very* careful with it, use it sparingly and always pay in full each month, and you will be grateful. Use it carelessly, and any dreams you may have of one day owning a home, you may never be able to own it.

If the card has been activated, you're unlikely to be asked for ID. IF you are, I don't think school ID will cut it. You can get a state ID without getting a driver's license and that is your best bet.

They may refuse your school ID. You can get a state ID at the DMV.

If it contains your picture and name, I believe it can be used, although you may need to get an official ID. However, unfortunately or not, very few places actually check IDs.

Usually they won't ask for your ID as long as you have signed the back of the credit card.

However, the school ID should work if you need it.
