If they hadn't eaten the forbidden fruit God would have found some other excuse to evict them from the garden. The garden was a warm up act. Adam & Eve were never intended to stay there.

They would have remained there, in Eden. We would have never existed, everything we learned about at history, wouldn't have existed, people would be asking questions like: "If Adam and Eve had eaten the apple, what would have happened?" :D

eventually someone would have eaten one. They were capable of procreating. The sin is one of pride since they wanted to have the knowledge of God. If Adam and Eve never ate one there children would have. Pride is too strong to pass up for everyone.

"And now, behold, if Adam had not transgressed he would not have fallen, but he would have remained in the garden of Eden. And all things which were created must have remained in the same state in which they were after they were created; and they must have remained forever, and had no end. And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin.

That wasn't an option. Adam was meant to eat the apple to start sin, without sin their is no free will, without free will there would be no earth.

Did perpetual happiness in the Garden of Eden maybe get so boring that eating the apple was justified?

Adam would have discovered the Sheep.
Eve would cook, clean and give backrubs. Maybe even get to groom the sheep when it was not being used.
