Just because your friend says it's okay doesn't mean it is. In fact she is probably just trying to be a nice friend. I would never advise going out with a best friend's ex, it can cause way to many problems. If he is still in love with her, that is even more of a reason to not go there. Suppose he were to go out with you, it might be under false pretenses (he could do it to get closer to her, or to make her jealous). Do all three of you a favor and just get over him, it's really not worth it.

if he is still in love with his ex....leave him alone. you are only pulling yourself in for heartache. so not worth it. and your best friend is NOT okay with it. trust me. no one really ever is.
