Mat 5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Yep meaning whatever you do and what you are around that causes you to sin, get away from it, your hand doesn't tempt you to sin, something around you does. Like a so called friend that tries to get you to steal something, if you don't want to be a person that steals, then they only way to get rid of that problem is to get rid of the friend. It's a metaphor, in fact basically the whole bible is one big metaphor, you got to think past the physical and think at a spirtual level, that is the key to understanding the bible.

The bible isn't a literal document.

The eye and hand could be related to soemthing like alcohol. If alcohol is making you do bad things, cut it out from your life.

Makes more sense when you've got an IQ over 90 ;).

No, and I have never heard anyone make that association. I don't think that is an appropriate conclusion from this passage.

Though I do not take it be literal...I also have not taken it to be synonymous with "church discipline". I have always understood it to be on a personal level.
