I'm considering doing so, but am just curious about what it entails. And yes, I know it is a great thing to do and I should do it, so you don't need to include that in your answer. THanks!

Hey! I just gave blood yesterday! I was scared too that it would hurt, i'm really scared of needles. Before they insert the needle, they rub a disinfectant on there for about 30 seconds. After that, there is a sort of numbness on that part of the arm. I was mostly scared to see it go in. I looked away and i didn't even feel it go in. The nurse laughed when i didn't open my eyes cause i thought she hadn't put it in yet. I felt great! make sure you drink water and have a good meal before!

Does Donating Blood Hurt

Personally, I do not think it is painful but I am not bothered by needles. The needle is a bit bigger than the one that you are probably used to getting your blood drawn for testing. When you go to the doctor to get your blood drawn, they use a 21 to 23 gauge needle. When donating blood, a 17 gauge needle is used (which is a wider needle). I can't really tell the difference in needle size.

It's not that bad. You have worse pain fairly often in your daily life. Yesterday I cracked my knee on the piano bench when I went by. That hurt. The difference is that I didn't know I was going to bang into the piano bench, so I didn't have to worry about how much it was going to hurt. When you give blood you know there will be some discomfort and it seems strange to plan to go there on purpose and have that happen. However, when I have given blood, once you are through the first minute or so, it's fine. And you usually get a snack afterward!

It doesn't hurt at all. It feels like any other shot or when you have blood taken at the doctors office when you are sick. Be sure to eat good that day to make sure you don't pass out. That has happened to me before. I always take a soda with me (or get one from the donation site) and sip it while I'm giving the blood. That helps from fainting from the blood loss. Also, drink plenty of fluids afterwards to ward off dehydration.

i was scared the first time i gave blood, but it's really not that bad. if you're afraid of needles, there are probably better ways to help people, but if you don't mind the initial insertion of the needle, the actual process of losing blood doesnt hurt at all. it's actually quite boring, bring a book or something, because they just kinda leave you there for a few minutes. overall except for the pinch of the needle (same as any other shot), giving blood doesn't hurt at all.

Donating blood involves a small sting; they can use it whole, or put it in a centrifuge to make plasma (without the blood cells). Phone the Red Cross and ask.

The needle may bother you. It is just a stick like getting a shot. There is no pain in giving the blood.

depends on your pain level. It is only a needle being inserted into a vein. Little discomfort. However, don't get up too fast after finished. you could faint until your blood level equalizes.
