is it strange for the woman to propose to the man? would men find this flattering or embarrassing? women, has anyone out there done this? i'm contiplating doing this but i don't want to take away his "manly duty". some men might dream about this their whole lives and then get it shattered by being beaten to the punch. is it old school to think this way or is it the 20th century and anything goes???

I guess its a matter of personal preference. If you've always dreamed of having a guy propose to you (like me) its probably not a good idea...you could always drop hints at him and try to get a discussion about marriage going. If you don't mind if you don't get proposed to, then I guess anything goes.

In this modern day and age, I think it is alright for a girl to propose to a guy if both of you are ready for the commitment. In either way, both of you must be aware of the responsiblities that come with marriage and it should be viewed as a lifetime commitment and not just an overnight fantasy.

If you think he has some personal need to ask the question himself -- yet you want to expedite the process --- You could give him the answer in advance of the question.

example: you could say something like - in case you want to ask, the answer is yes -- then he will still have the "manly duty" of asking, and won't be shattered -- and you will have accomplished your purpose -- both of you win!
