After almost every race in meets, my hips hurt bad. It's right up front sort of below my hips, and I get really stiff, and can hardly lift my legs. I stretch a lot, maybe two or three times before each event, and once or twice after. I asked my coach about my warm up, and warm down, and he said i was doing every thing right, but why does it hurt so bad???

You might want to see a Podiatrist and have them check your walking/running gait. Sometimes you can have a leg slightly longer then the other and it throws off your running gait and you over-compensate for it and tend to strain your tendons. Or it could be a pronation(over or under) problem that strains your legs.

It might also just be an inflammation of the muscles if they are not warmed up enough prior to running. Try changing shoes as well to be sure it isn't caused by poor shoe choice.

Do you have the same problems during practices? You might want to have someone watch to see if you over-extend your stride during a meet compared to practice.

Good luck! Hope you find something to alleviate the pain quick!

you should go to the doc and have this checked you may have a fracture in the hip. they may have to do a MRI to see it, it will not show up on a regular x-ray. I fractured my hip 4 yrs ago running, I had the same symptoms, do you also have pain in your lower buttocks? if you do definitely get a doctors opinion.

Usually when a body part hurts, it is because it has been over used. You may have to evaluate the situation regarding racing.
