On your renter's or homeowners policy, they may ask you if you have any 'furs, firearms, or jewelry' or something along those lines. If they don't ask, it WON'T be covered, you HAVE to mention it when signing up for the policy...or if it's an existing policy, you need to call them and put it on. It doesn't cost much at all.
They'll ask for the proof of value or whatever it's called, if it's a diamond ring or similar ring of high value. You should've gotten something like this when you bought the ring, stating the gem's carats, clarity, yada yada. That will be the proof of value, and they'll need a copy of that.

Add it to your renters or homeowners policy. If you don't have renters insurance contact the company that insures your auto. If you have both policies with the same company you can get a discount on both policies.
They will need an appraisal for the ring and it will be listed specifically on your policy. Ask for agreed or stated value coverage on the jewelry. The cost to insure the ring is based on the value and runs anywhere from 1.00 to 1.50 per hundred of coverage.

You have to know how much it costs in order to insure it. Call your homeowner's insurance agent to insure it. Not only will THEY need to know the value, you will also have to get it appraised and turn in your appraisal paperwork to them. So, first take your ring to a jewelry store and they will appraise it for you (for a small fee). Then you mail that in along with a photo of the ring to your agent. If you are a renter and not a homeowner you will need renter's insurance and then your ring plus all your other valuuables will be covered under the policy.

If you have homeowners or renters insurance you can add a rider. Cost depends on you, your policy, and the value of the ring. Contact your agent.

The easist way is by endorsement on your homeowners or renter's policy. Pricing will vary by company and geographic area, but usually runs about $1.50 to $2 per $100 of appraised value.

Insuring jewelry is expensive. It can cost 10 % of its value per year. You can do it online or through your homeowner's or renter's policiy.
