A non committed coward scared there may be a god so they stay obedient to an imaginary god. They wish there was a god but can't own up to his demands. They are too cowardly to go all the way and admit there is no god and that it is all a fairy tale.

Agnostic is the position that states that the existence of God can either A: not be proved at all, or B: is currently unknown to the individual.

I can be an agnostic and state simply that I don't know if God exists.

I could also be an agnostic and state that God can't be proved at all. Too, I could hold both views.

The difference between an agnostic and an atheist is that the atheist states categorically that there is no god.

The term agnostic comes from the Greek word "gnosis" meaning knowledge. The "a" means "without."

An Agnostic neither denies or affirms the existance of a god but many will state they believe something may be out there, but there is no way to definitively prove that existance and if there is a god, that deity is ultimately unknowable.

Therefore, one remains "without" knowledge yet with the openness to research and educate themselves.

The agnostic makes no judgement about God's existence, and sees it impossible to either prove, affirm or deny. It is sometimes a certain search for God but with an express indifferentism and flight from the ultimate question of existence. It is very often associated in the minds of many to be equivalent to atheism.

Gnostic comes from the greek word gnosis which means knowledege. Agnostic simply means without knowledge. You can be agnostic about many things other than God. I could be agnostic about bigfoot.

Gnosticism as a religious belief emerged in the early days of christinaity, probally pre-100 AD. Their beliefs simply held that certian people had secret knowledge or gnosis about god. There were many apocryphal Gnostic texts, including the Gospel of Thomas.

"Agnostic" was introduced by Thomas Henry Huxley in 1869 to describe his philosophy which rejects Gnosticism, by which he meant not simply the early 1st millennium religious group, but all claims to occult or mystical knowledge.*

An Agnostic is a person who feels that the existence or nonexistence of any god, goddess, gods or goddesses is unknowable. One can be an Agnostic Atheist which means that they don't believe in the existence of any god, goddess, gods, or goddesses but doesn't know for sure. Then one can be an Agnostic Theist which means that the believe that a god, or goddess, or gods or goddesses exist but that they don't know for sure. Then their are Agnostics who are in between Agnostic Atheists and Agnostic Theists who simply feel that the existence or non existence of any god, or goddess, or gods or goddesses are totally unknowable.

Agnosticism is the view that the existence of God is impossible to be known or proven. The word “agnostic” essential means “without knowledge.” Agnosticism is a more intellectually honest form of atheism. Atheism claims that God does not exist – an improvable position. Agnosticism argues that God’s existence cannot be proven or unproven – that it is impossible to know whether God exists. In this concept, agnosticism is correct. God’s existence cannot be empirically proven or disproven.

An agnostic is a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.

Simply put, a person is agnostic if they feel that the existence of G-d can neither be proven or disproven.

"A word first used by Professor Huxley, to indicate one who believes nothing which cannot be demonstrated by the senses."

I'm an agnostic. It means that you don't see a reason to either believe or disbelieve in God. So you accept that you just don't know, and never will. At least until you die.
