Why is he doing that??

My boyfriend and I of 8 years argue alot,I have left a couple of times and came back to him(we have kids),we have sex and still do the same as before but he says we aren't together,we are just friends.Why is he saying we are just friends is it because he wants to see othe people?

In general when someone says 'just freinds', that means they want to(or are) seeing other people.
