it will zoom when i first turn it on normally,after a couple min.it will start to act funny. Should i return it? note: i charged the batts for about 30 min,which is not a full charge,but i dont think it should be doing that.

I fully agree with Pichi...You're probably just a little too impatient and you want to use the camera straight away.
But, you have to charge the battery fully, which should only take approx. 90 mins. I suggest you READ your user manual.
I'm sure the camera is perfectly fine...it just needs a lot of power to operate correctly and a partially charged battery is not going to provide the camera with enough power.

I would try it with a fully charged battery before deciding it is defective, which it may be. But it could very well be not getting enough power. Read the directions, charge the battery for the ENTIRE time recommended, then try the camera.
Make your decision from there.
