"Ismail's Ax" was almost certainly a Muslim. Cho tattooed himself "Ismail's Ax" and he sure did axe a lot of infidels.

I know that his religion does not matter. It is a situation of choosing evil rather than good, regardless of religious persuasion. I've heard many different comments about his being a loner, not fitting in, not being an outgoing or social person, etc. I cannot sit in judgement, nor can I know his reasons for his choice yesterday. Thats God's judgement, not mine.

I don't think it matters. He was a very disturbed person and I doubt if his religion had anything to do with it.
