Ok. I paid my state and federal taxes and mailed them last week. Today, I got my federal back in the mail. I DIDN'T PUT A STAMP ON IT! My husband is mailing it right now. But, I'm sure I did the same thing with my state taxes, and I don't have those back yet...

What do I do? What is the penalty for being 1-2 days late? I owed a whopping 7 bucks.

Today's the deadline, so no big deal as long as it's postmarked today. With a $7 balance due, I wouldn't sweat it. The penalty would be less than $1 and any debt of less than $1 is dropped by the IRS.

Penalty on $7, with a little luck, would only be pennies. But hang onto the envelope if it gets returned, so you can show that you had originally mailed it on time - that might help if your state has some large penalty.

Put a stamp on it and mail again. Don't worry about.

If he is taking it to the main post office to mail it, it will be ok - as long as it post-marked by midnight tonight.

I know you may get a fine for it but don't be alarm... not much anyway... and I think they are understandable... if you want to know for sure, then go to your local IRS and ask for help... explain to them, they are OK, that what I did last time.
