It all depends on your body weight. An active woman should consume anywhere between 1100(low side)-1500 calories a day. If you do eat past 8 make sure its healthy, not high in sugar(stay away from fruits and carbs) I myself workout 5 days a week for 2-3 hours a day. And i consume a max of 1200 calories a day. Which is necessary to keep my metabolism up and my weight neutral. If I want to lose a few extra I eat 1000 or so. Your body goes into starvation mode when you don't eat at all, or if you eat too little calories and are working out intensely. The problem with eating too few of calories is your metabolism slows down, which in return will actually make you gain weight.
Aim for 1200 a day and work out
hope this helps

Your body will be more easily able to turn the food you eat at night into stored fat because your body is at rest and you arent burning many calories naturally as it is. Your best bet is to use one of the two options, eat 5-7 small meals a day, this keeps your metabolism at a constant speedy rate and makes burning fat very easy. When I say small I mean the entire meal would be about the size of your hand. Doesnt matter what it is really, best if its healthy though.
The other rule is that you eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a teen and dinner like a kid. Meaning a big breakfast, good sized lunch, and a very small dinner. The best option to go with is the first one mentioned, and it depends on how much you weigh, and how many calories you burn throughout the day that depends on if your body will go into starvation mode. The best place for basically expert advise is www.discussbodybuilding.com, these guys know what they are talking about, and they are really nice and laid back.

If you are not getting the minimal calories to survive, then your body will go into starvation mode and start "eating itself" to keep you sustained. 860 calories is not enough to sustain normal body functions, let alone a body under stress. If you are under stress, you need to eat to stay healthy and strong! Good luck

To get out of starvation mode you need to eat plenty of carbohydrates. This is so because the mechanism seems to be dependant on your blood glucose. So , consume slightly more than the average 1500 calories for a person who weighs 60 - 70 kilograms. To get an exact number go to a site for your calculations based on you individual measurements. (BMR calculator)
Also, eating late affects your natural biological process of leptin driven metabolism process.
Leptin a natural hormone is released from you own fat cells it drives the breakdown of fat. High levels mean your burning fat, low levels your not . Leptin levels are diurnal, peaking around 8pm and reaching a nadir at 8 am.
If you eat at the time you leptin peaks you are not allowing the natural leptin process to stimulate fat oxidation because of the food you eat will drive you metabolism instead.
The body work on one basic principle "use it or lose it",if you never allow the natural processes of energy metabolism with out the effect of food to work you will make it redundant.
