The gospel of "Christ and Him crucified" offends; it confronts; it demands a verdict.

There are a number of reasons, but the right reason is that a follower of Jesus Christ has been given the best possible gift (forgiveness and eternal life in a perfect paradise with a intimate relationship with the almighty God of the universe). Hopefully a follower wants that for all people. Sometimes they get overzealous. Forgive us.

Actually, you make a very important point. Extreme Christians are so deeply dysfunctional and blatantly ignorant that they scare me away from even considering that some aspects of Christianity might be worthwhile. Many (most?)atheists are profoundly intelligent and highly educated. Given what I've seen here, converting to Christianity would be like poking out my eyes so I can see better.

I know what you mean and it scares me stiff. There's so much hatred in their speech ...
I guess that at the root, there is for some inadequate people a huge comfort to be had in the 'knowledge' that they are right and that a great many other people are wrong and are going to be punished for it. The relish with which they speak of the punishments - and their frequently-voiced willingness to dole them out - is such a long, long way from what we know of the historical Jesus that I wonder what goes on in their heads when they sit through their bible studies.

ya i know.. Christians today send horrible messages to people. Shoving God down their throat and getting made when they dont' except it... I am a christan and many Christians i know are crazy people who go on the street screaming the gospel to everyone... I just wish people could see what Jesus did... And Christians stop thinking they are the best people ever.

"Jesus Freaks", my you sound like a child of the 60's. If things about Jesus scare you, you must be a real fraidy cat. Jesus was the most honourable and loving person to ever live. Christians refer to warriors as one who prays against evil in the world. So, lets see you are afraid of people who follow a leader who is kind and loving and offers eternal life and you are afraid of people who pray for good things to happen.

Was Jesus zealous? Remember what he did when he entered the temple courtyard? He showed alot of zeal for true worship. Jesus loved his Father.

It had been said that religion is the opiate of the masses, in some instances it is the hallucinogen.
