I went from 194 to 162 in college. I was at 7.5 body fat. I have run MANY marathons.

NOW, I weigh 215 pounds. I am at 30% body fat.

It just seems so much tougher to lose weight right now at 27 than when I was 21... Any insight/tips on how to get started on this HUGE PROJECT to get back down to 170-175.

yikes...you went from one extreme to the other. sounds like you need to make a 180 on the diet if your body fat increased over 20% in only 6 years.

Without knowing your lifestyle, I can't really pick any one item to blame.

But I can make suggestions.

If you eat a lot of fast food, cut way back on it. Fast foods tend to be greasy, salty, and come in way larger portions than you need.

If you eat a lot of fried foods, again, cut back.

Be merciless about getting junk food out of your life: From what I see, something is sabotaging your efforts to lose weight. And that's the usual culprit.

Drink a lot of water: You'll need to stay hydrated. And the water will fill up space that you otherwise would use for calorie-laden chow.

Get on an exercise program: That will help insure that what you lose is fat, not muscle.

Good luck!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!

Your metabolism slows down when you get older because of muscle loss, especially if you stopped exercising. Maybe you should add weight training to your regimen to build more muscle, then do some cardio and cut down on the calories.

well your body does start to slow down the older you get. ya 27 sounds about right. thats when i started having trouble keeping my weight down. seems like the only way i can lose any significant weight is to starve myself..and i mean starve..less than 1000 calories a day. with exercise..and i'm only 29

30% body fat is actually normal... It's nothing to be ashamed of. Most likely, you can't lose weight because of your genes, or your body just can't lose any more weight.

If you do decide to lose weight, be careful. Getting too skinny isn't good for you. Looking skinny isn't worth hurting yourself.
