Your friends life is hardly wasted, no reason to be sad just do not expect your friend to become an atheist according to a timetable. If he is truly tormented by his faith, he must first allow the challenges that lead him away from his torment and that is a personal choice only he can make. Those challenges begin when your friend starts questioning the parts of reality that do not jive with his faith. No amount of evil atheist propaganda can wrench another away from their faith - nor should they.
It can be very painful and even terrifying for one to loose faith in god. It can be a real mine field when your spiritual compass is knocked out. Discovering this tremendous sense of peace in a godless existence required from me a massive measure of thinking, reading, learning, re-learning and even more thinking. It took time and understanding concepts that were harder to comprehend than I had ever imagined but what I know now explains reality in ways no god can ever reconcile. To be of greatest help is to keep being a dear friend who can be there if and/or when your friend looses his faith.
Once as a very spiritual Christian, I was terrified at the thought that there might be no god, no afterlife and that I may have been lied to. Now as a proud and devout atheist, I would not take this reality any other way...had I known what I do now, I would have gladly paid an even higher price to acquire my world view.
Since such time, my eyes are more open to this universe than they ever have and I love rediscovering this life and what it means to be alive without the ethereal lens. If I am any indicator, it will take your friend some time if it happens at all, just don't force your friend to deal with issues he himself does not feel comfortable bringing up. There is little reason to alienate him - that's why you're his friend.
As for the damn monkeys...um are you asking about evolution? If so, yes it's obvious we are very advanced primates - compare DNA between humankind and other primates and you'd swear that we humans are in fact monkeys uncles!

Why is it so important for you to make your friend see things from your prospective Betty? I've seen how ballsy you can be, so I can't believe you'd be looking for anyone elses approval. Why is he so sad and tormented? I've been a christian since 1999 or 2000 and I've never felt bad or anything because of it.
If you really wanna help him, I'd just leave him be. Trying to turn him into an athiest may just confuse and sadden him more. Just let him have his world view and be his friend. That's what I do with my Dad (He would sooner piss glass than set foot in a church.)
Oh, and in reference to the end of your question their, if you've got a Monkey infestation, I've still got my AK47! I'll take care of those destructive little turds for $5 no $10 a head! Unless their Spyder Monkeys, those I do for free. (A little poop throwing incident at our local zoo scared me for life, enough said.) LoL

You are right about Christianity....in fact, all religion is baloney. However, I disagree with you on the existence of God. There can be no other explanation for our being, except for the hand of a higher power. Total disregard of a higher power (such as atheism) is irrational. You therefore just claim that the universe exists ....giving credit to nothing or nobody. I don't see how you can "see the joy" by boasting of your arrogance toward the creator/creators.

"Owing to a lack of knowledge on your part, you dont know if God exists, so you really cannot be an atheist. The only true qualifier for the title is the One (God) who has "absolute knowledge" and why would God want to deny His own existence?? The Bible tells us that "ignorance" is willfull (Psalm 10:4). Since atheists do not possess all knowledge 100% there is no such thing as an atheist....

I believe that you would have to sit down with a pen and paper and write down all of the definitive, scientific proof that shows (beyond a shadow of a doubt, mind you) that God cannot possibly exist. This will prove difficult for several reasons. First you will have to scientifically define God. Second, you will have to explain how a timeless and omnipresent being can be so easily explained away by a not-so omnipresent human, such as yourself. Best of luck to you!

If were his friend you wouldn't care what his faith was. And since he is unwilling to denounce his God, he must be just as happy as a Christian as you are as an atheist.

Most likely you will do nothing to convert your friend, however there is a great chance God has put this friend into your life because he is trying to reach and love you.Be Blessed
