The time that the return is accepted by the IRS is the time it's considered filed. If it's not accepted by midnight tonight it will technically be late. If it's accepted you may be able to get the IRS to waive the penalty for late filing and late payment but not any interest charges. If the return is rejected you'll definitely be late and probably should file a paper return.

No, we did our Taxes today April 17 at 2:30PM California. Our tax guy informed us of a Holiday in Washington, so you will have til end of the day.

No, taxes filed electronically are considered filed when submitted. The software or website should put a time stamp on your file when submitted.
