I'm not too sure how to explain what the profession is but I'll try. I was watching one of the investigation shows (CSI, SVU, etc) and they were trying to find a missing girl. She would make contact with them but she would hang up when she heard her kidnapper coming in the door. The detectives recorded his voice in the background and then called in a person who listened to the voice of this man and the girl (who both spoke fluent English with slight accents) then figured out her age, race, native language, language dialect and determined what country she was from, what city, and a prediction of the area within the city. What was his job title?

This profession is called "forensic linguistics" ...

I watched that episode of Law and Order SVU. In that case it really helped that the lady that figured out that the little girl was from Colombia, was from Colombia also.
My friend is a speech pathologist and one of the branches of that career is to do that job you are referring to.
I am not sure about the name of the job, but I am sure you will find out if you search under speech pathology.
