Mr Mormon-the word 'discuss' means just that. I never said that I did generalise, just wanted to hear some opinions and answers. You practice blind faith, who's the moron?!

Not everybody have the same opinion on things in this world Some do that way and some do this way.

Like for example, your father do you have the same opinion with your father on things going along. Let us presumed that both of you have the same belief but the way in what you do to that belief varies, yet you both are following the same opinion.

Another example is this, let us assumed that in your family, your family name is WHITE and somebody will tell you that all in the family of WHITE are arrogant in their dealing with men, all are affected and of course one of your family will complain that not all of you are arrogant.

Yes and No. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses. We are well known for striving to all follow the Bible the same. However, even with in these confines, we are varied in interests, personalities, strengths, weaknesses, etc.

Generalisations can be dangerous things, in part, because of this. Also at times Generalisations are based on half truths, or misunderstandings.

Example, someone could see me watching TV and NOT drinking alcohol and then make the mistaken comment, ALL Witnesses watch TV and none drink Alchohol (I have actually seen people on here say none of us do, which is not true, some of us do drink others don't)

Another example, Quite often people on Y!A ask, with varying wording, why "NO" Kingdom Halls have windows. In fact, some do, some don't. Generalisations such as these are faulty.

Remember there are FEW absolutes.

It's unfair to generalize ANY group because you are ignoring one key factor: no 2 people are exactly the same!

We may all follow one book or religion, but we don't all have the same background, race, sex, language or culture.

As a Christian I think the KKK is an absurd and twisted "group", but they also claim to be Christian. I most certainly don't agree with them or share their racist views, but they supposedly follow the Bible just like I do.

Generalizations are never a good thing, and can often lead to hate crimes and genocide, i.e. Hitler and the Jews, and the civil conflict between the Hutu and the Tutsi in Africa in the 90's.

So while it is possible to find unity and likemindedness within a religion, it is impossible to classify all members in the exact same category as each other. We may all work toward one goal, but we have various ways of getting there.

You know, for someone who was raised on reason and common sense you're being a complete moron. People by definition are different from other people. For example, if you went to Utah and saw all the Mormons there, and then met me you'd think I was a Satan worshipper, but I am in fact a Mormon despite glaring differences with others in my religion.

Generalizations/stereotypes come from weak minds unwilling to recognize that each person is a unique individual with strengths and weaknesses.

Even though there are easily recognizable similarities, every group of people has every kind of person as members of that group. And ultimately, for someone to characterize the group by any individual says very little good about the person who generalizes.

Sometimes, you do get the ones thatgo to the extreme & become fanatical, & once fanatical do not see anything else, & if you don't see it their way you wil be going to hell!
The reality is that their are people who also live by that book, but make it real to others that they begin to wonder why the people living by that book are so differnt, that they aren't judged & don't see the hypocracy, that is shown by the more fantcial group. It becomes intrigueing.

Great question, good luck in getting a debate.

Did you really just say "What's wrong with generalising people"?

Generally, Christians believe in god.

But I'm going to stop the generalizations there. After that, they're all different. Even the Christians can't agree on what the bible means. Why would you generalize them by it?

1. People interpret that book in different ways

2. People have different charcateristics and personalities - let me ask you a question - is everyone in your family the same -personality wise? No- so think how much more dumb it is to generalise about millions or billions of people

Because it is the same as racisim! In refrence to Muslims, there are raticals who are totally out of line and there are the ones who believe in peace. In refrence to Mormons, there are Mormons and Latter-Day Saints who do ot believe or act the same, Need I go on?

Because it's wrong. No two people are the same. Everyone gets a different meaning from the religion or book, so how can you generalize them?
