I love that show, too. You know, when I saw that episode I wondered about it as well. If things that we don't believe exist are called into existence by thinking about it, then people DO believe they exist, don't they?

I think it's kind of the same thing with every world religion. Christians believe that there is a God, and assume that when they pass away, they will go to Heaven or Hell. That will happen because they believe it-- no one knows for sure of course, but I think they'll believe that's what's happening to them. Buddhists see the world differently, but what they believe exists for them too.

Everyone in the town in Supernatural feared that old haunted house. Fear is the belief in possible danger-- which they wouldn't have held if it weren't for the story. So, if they were afraid of the guy, they MUST have believed he was real.

I don't agree with some of the answers given. Not all supernatural occurences are evil. I live in an old cottage which was originally built for a manager of a cotton mill. I'm occasionally visited by the spirit of the first lady to live here. She is quite delightful and always leaves behind the feeling of love. I know she loved her home and her visits have coincided with restoration I have been doing to the property which I know she approves of. I don't think that a thinking about ghosts cause supernatural things to happen I wasn't when this first started. The contact seems to be controlled from beyond, although I guess a degree of sensitivity helps.

I feel compelled to ask what is the matter with some of the people here.

Pangel writes a perfectly respectable offering with regard to the question asked, and actually supports the premise of the question, that we, manifested human beings, are responsible for the manifestations that are called 'supernatural', and she gets 7 thumbs down.

Since when did non-agreement warrant a negative mark. Isn't that just supposed to be for outstanding ignorance, stupidity or being just plain, provably, wrong ?

I suspect that, as has been suggested, that there are some here who intentionally target individuals because of some agenda-led issue or issues.

I have observed that the 'Godly' have taken it upon themselves to denigrate certain people here, Pangel is one, because they do not subscribe to the same religious or value systems.

I second Pangel's answer, and fully support the contention that we, and we alone, are responsible for every single thing that manifests here.

Now, chorus, see how many thumbs down you can give me.

Cadno,

What Holmes said was :

"In order to get to the truth you first have to eliminate the impossible, then whatever is left, no matter how improbable, is likely to be the truth."

Of course, the problem with that philosophy is defining what is 'impossible' !

I have to be honest here, in the terms of belief then yes this can happen. Its the old saying, to give something a name gives it power over you. Think about this in general life, when you aren't aware of something it doesn't really bother you, you carry on safe in the knowledge that it doesn't exist.

Now flip that around, you'll suddenly be aware that something is there. How do you deal with this?

Simple your mind starts to wonder, you can't seem to shake the feeling that something that is 'supernatural' is around you.

Its psychology in many regards, if you want to believe something is there, you'll find it sooner or later. This isn't to say that such things aren't real, but sometimes we have to make sure that we look at the reality and explain all the possilbe causes before jumping to the next conclusion.

I believe Sherlock Holmes said it best 'when all things have been explained, whatever remains must be the truth'.

If you call it to appear, and people see it, then it exists. Then again, there is the subject of delusions, of seeing things that do not exist. That's something else.

Simply believing in something can make one able to see it. This can also work in the negative, as was the case in the Americas when the indigenous peoples were unable to see the boats of the Europeans as they had no frame of reference for such vessels.

there are many theories about all things supernatural. that by thinking about a dead person you hold them to the earth, that if a bad thing happens to a person in death they can't move over and that if your a bad person that you will be forced to remain here in spirit. I don't believe there is any real evidence for any of this. So i guess it's up to you what you believe!

Familiar and evil spirits are mentioned many times in the Bible. These demonic spirits possess people and take over their body. One of the easiest ways women get into being possessed by evil spirits is by way of witchcraft and summoning the dead. The dead can't hurt you but listen to Scripture.

Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood (people), but against principalities (leaders), against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The devil is very organized. His fallen angel demonic army has many different ranks.

You fight these supernatural entities with the full armor of God.
So, if you don't know the Bible, the Word of God, it can be best said that "you don't have a dog's chance in hell." One of the main reasons that God commands that we know His Word. Read the Bible. This world is in spiritual warfare at this very moment and people are not the enemy.

To me these forces are malevolent and described in the biblical books. When persons dabble in rituals and practices they unwittingly open themselves up to personal attacks by these forces.

Allow me some examples taken from the popular culture to make my point. In the movie, Constantine, the movie's main character tells Angela Dobson, who desires to know more about the "hidden world" around her, that when she does there is no going back to life as she knew it. Constantine tells her, "You will be able to see them, and they [demonic forces] will see you, too." In one of the earliest modern day depictions of evil, The Exorcist, we find Regan MacNeil playing around with a Quija board, and later being physically possessed by demons.

If I am to draw a pattern between these two fictional examples and real life, the pattern is similar to what we would read in the Bible. When one exposes oneself to supernatural influences outside orthodox Christianity, there is a very real likelihood that one could come under demonic attack. In the case of poor Regan above, we see in the many sequels to The Exorcist, that she continued to be subjected to demonic influences. This is easy to understand when one considers the admonition:

Luk 11:24 "When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.'
Luk 11:25 And when it comes, it finds the house and put in order.
Luk 11:26 Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first."

Here we see that while Regan in the Exorcist movie had her demons exorcised (swept) from her, nothing was done to protect her spiritually to prevent even greater misfortune once she had opened herself up to the forces of evil

1Pe 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

It's called believing in something that doesn't exist. Supernatural is a good TV show but we shouldn't believe the things we see on that show because they aren't true at all.
