How do I ask a friend out when he is in chicago and I am in Akron?

My friend and I are becoming close and I want to ask him out or find out if he likes me like that. I don't know how to ask him. I am going to call him later so can u give me some advice

eMail might be inexpensive, but phone would give him (her) the sound of your voice, and real-time interaction. Hopefully you have a number.

You may wish to suggest meeting at some neutral ground (restaurant, park) somewhere about half-way between the cities.
