I sorta argued with a someone just now. It's sad to see how some people refuse to listen. It saddens me.

"They would not listen, they're not listening still. Perhaps they never will."

Sigh.

It went like that at first, but in the end it ended like what I just quoted.

"Having eyes but cannot see, and having ears but cannot hear" - how true the words of the Bible about the people of this world.

We see and hear only what we want to and disregard everything else. Most of the problems we have today are because people do not listen to what others are saying - they are too busy holding on to their own viewpoints that they cannot allow room for others to say their piece.

The art of listening is a skill and an asset that very few have today. Ours is a fast-paced generation today where everything passes by in a flash, MTVs - we want excitement, we want things done quickly - we have lost the virtue of patience and we don't want to stop, pause and think things through .... it's only go, go, go!!!! Everyone is busy doing things but noone is taking time to just stop and think why?

Busy people, self-centred lives, always wanting things done "My way" - would they really ever have time to listen? Would they ever bother to want to listen? You are right - they will not listen, they are not listening then or now and they never will!

The Son of God came into their midst 2000 years ago, he spoke, but did they listen? Did they hear? They didn't then and even today, many still do not! Take heart and be relieved for it's not only you that they don't listen to.

It depends on what you wanted them to listen too! Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they aren't listening. Unless it was a cut and dry right or wrong answer maybe they were just trying to show you it from their point of view. They may well have walked away feeling you weren't listening!

I agree, it's sad.

"Come here where your ears cannot hear.
And close your eyes, child, and listen to what I'll tell you
Follow in the darkest night the sounds that may impel you
And the song that I am singing may disturb or serve to quell you
If all the sounds you hear ain't what they seem,
Then don't mind me 'cos I ain't nothin' but a dream."

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Mankind is not known for humility.

Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

We see and hear only what we want to or what we think. As the expression goes, there's none so deaf as those who do not want to hear.

Are we not all like that?

At least until God opens our ear.

....or.... people talking without speaking, people hearing without listening, people writing songs that voices never share...

kinda the opposite problem, and possibly the bigger one. I can handle the odd bit of ugliness as long as there is beauty in the world as well.

PS nuff respec' to Mr McLean - he's on the beautiful side of course.

You are so right, most times when you are having an indepth conversation or a debate with someone they are way too busy thinking about what they are going to say next to hear what you are saying.
One of my favorite songs too.

They are listening to man and not to the Spirit of God. God will CALL ! Use your gifts inside, to discern the difference.

To be able to is both miraculous and a gift from above. How could you have expected anything other?
