Guys never tell directly what they are thinking or feeling. We don't' like the idea of people being inside or heads let alone our emotions.
If he said yea, but no, but yeah it sounds like either
a) He likes you but doesn't want to admit it for fear of your thoughts feelings.
b) He likes you and isn't sure if he wants to even think about getting together b/c of the possible issues in the future.
or
c) He likes you still and has never gotten over you.
A guy could of been in a car wreck, a fist fight and had a death in the family and if they were asked "how you doing" 3/4 of the time the guy would respond "I'm fine"
For the most part we don't open up and would never put our emotionally life at jeopardy. Just my two bits.

He likes you but feels that he shouldn't while at the same time likinng you but not sure if you feel the same way.... over all I would say the he likes you and is just protective of his feelings as they might not be mutuall.
BUT, why did you ask that question of your ex? Do you like him or has he been showing signs to make you feel that he might like you.. In asking this question you also run the risk of sending the wrong signals, in that he feels that you ask that of him just because you like him...
I guess the question is really based on whether you still like him. Do you?? ..................... Really now, have a think about that answer.
