I know that it may sting when you get hit but is it possible to die?

Yes they can be fatal. That is why in Canada you must register any bb or pellet gun capable of 500fps or more.
There are guns out there designed to be capable of 1500fps and more!
These guns are usually for hunting and highly acurate target practice.
And a bb gun to the temple at point blank range would probably puncture the skull. may not kill you but if you had a lil copper plated steel ball in your brain you might never be the same....

Here is a link to an article written by Dr. Beeman that talks about airgun safety:

https://store.bluebookinc.com/Info/PDF/Airgun/BeemanArticle.pdf

The article says that the "US Consumer Product Safety
Commission reported 39 non-powder gun/related deaths" between 1990 and 2000, translating to roughly 4 airgun deaths a year in the US.

I didn't confirm the data, but a goole search also revealed a story of a person killed with an airgun in Scotland.

So I guess they can be fatal. I guess it would have to be a lucky shot or the victim would have to be terribly unlucky.

Yes, depending on the gun and the location of the wound. Keep in mind there are all sorts of airguns from your standard .177 all the way to .45 cal pre-charged pneumatics and beyond.

A couple hundred years ago, the Austrian army actually issued air rifles as an infantry weapon, and air rifles were carried on the Lewis & Clark expedition. These were as deadly as any musket of the time if not more so.

A pellet gun can definitely put the hurts ta' someone especially if it is the pump-type. Any weapon whether it be a sling-shot or BB is DANGEROUS and one should consider that and be extremely careful! Ha', that is why I gave up huntin', because of people bein' unaware of their weapons!! Had some idiot shoot at me because I was comin' through the brush draggin' a deer back to my camp and he thought it may have been a buck!! H _ _ L, I even was sportin' a flourescent vest and the same color bandana on my, "Resistol" cowboy hat!!!!! The real HA', is when he entered my camp (next day) and asked if I'd accept $25.00 for field dressin' the damn deer he shot. Enough said...

Lewis and Clark took several airguns with them on their little voyage. They were made to kill. Impressed the Indians also. Air guns have been around a very long time.

A shot to the neck could kill you.

Airguns don't "sting." A pellet rifle can punch a hole through a gallon jug of milk. That's a penetrating injury.

Some are more powerful than others, and a 1000 FPS would surely kill someone if shot in the eye.

Maybe if it's an extremely powerful and automatic one and you got hit in the temple about 50+ times.
