Why is it that some people on here who do not believe in God and tell us who do that we are stupid and morons and that we should think blah blah blah......still feel a need to hold us to some religious standard?
If you don't believe in God, what right do you have to make comments like "Oh so Christian of you to insult others" etc...or "Does God approve of...?"
the other thing that bothers me is that people honestly seem to think that all Christians are alike, and it is sooo far from the truth. Mormons are not like Catholics....Protestants are not like Baptists...etc...and then there are Christians who are non-denominational and don't believe that there should be "religious" groups. That a Christian is merely someone who follows the teachings of Christ and believes that He died for our sins and rose again.

The replies so far I have appreciated as they are thoughtful and not insulting...thank you. I also do agree that there are many Christians of varying denominations who DO push their faith on others and I also think it is wrong.
When I said we are all different, I mean that we also have very personal views about our faith, and where someone next to me in a church might believe that there should not be Cosmo mags in the check out line...I myself think there is nothing wrong with it.

Ohh yes yes I definatly do not believe in condeming people to hell..It galls me to no end to here that people do this. for one it's not their decision and for two, what's the point of it?
you catch more bees with honey is my theory.
But if asked I will freely share my faith with others.

I do find it interesting how people do that.. Say they don't believe in God, but then hold Christians to God's standards.. That just doesn't make sense. It's my opinion that those people are just the type of people that like to cause trouble. Those people tend to decide that someone that professes to be a Christian and isn't 'perfect' means they aren't really Christian or something. Problem is... NO ONE is perfect!
As for just the plain idea that someone would say "oh so Christian of you" ... is someone just trying to be insulting in my opinion. They're trying to pick on someone. For one thing, it's NONE of their business!
I will admit, mind you, that if someone is 'preaching' to people and saying something like "Don't swear" but then does it him/herself... or says "This is the way things MUST be" and doesn't do things that way themselves.. that's wrong too. It's another thing if you say "I belive God wishes us to do this or be this way".. but if you're "preachy" about something.. then I can understand someone making remarks.. BUT.. that's a whole separate topic really :)

If there is NO God, NO Supreme Being, NO Creator, then we all evolved from a puddle of slime a number of billion years ago, a number which changes whenever "Scientists" discover some new fossil or a strange strata in rock or find another inconsistency in their theories.
Either NO God or MANY "Gods" means:
..... 1. We have no absolute truth. If one person believes that they should be a homosexual, another that they should drink human blood, another that the sky is green, then no one can say that any of them are wrong. They can do whatever they like and fabricate a justification for it.
..... 2. We, as the highest form of life, "evolved" from lower life forms, are like gods. We are superior to anyone and anything which ever set foot on the planet, the moon, or the ISS. Gods, I tell you, gods!
A lack of absolutes also means that they can selectively believe in God. They can ignore the existence of God when they are raping (statutory) under-aged girls (and boys), then taking the girls to abortion clinics to kill the baby (a.k.a. "helping" the girl), disposing of the evidence (a.k.a. covering up the crime). Then when a Christian says that these things are wrong or makes a mistake (we're not perfect, just forgiven [paraphrased from a bumper sticker]), then they quickly acknowledge God to bash the Christian. "Does God approve of ... ?" & "Oh, so Christian of you ..." & so on, all in a sarcastic tone of voice.
As for the different denominations thing, Jesus didn't tell us that we needed to be Baptist, Catholic, Anglican, Jehovah's Witnesses, or any other religion to be saved. Salvation is a three-step process: Ask God for forgiveness, Believe that Jesus is Christ - that He died for our sins and rose again, And Articulate that belief verbally (or in sign language, or however you can). For the most part, denomination is unimportant. But beware! Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is truly a Christian. Jesus is NOT the literal brother of Satan (Lucifer) [C.O.J.C.O.L.D.S.], Jesus is NOT the incarnation of any Archangel [J.W.], and church headquarters buildings should NOT be adorned with occult symbols (Pentagrams, Masonic icons, etc.) [...L.D.S.], and Jesus was not only a great prophet [I.] [B.].
Jesus IS Christ, Messiah, the "Anointed One," the only Son of God, the One who came to earth through the womb of a teenage virgin, the One who was tortured and crucified for our healing and sins, the One who was laid in a borrowed tomb, the One who rose again, giving all those who believe in Him eternal life with God.
Truth is absolute. God is Love. Jesus came, died, and rose. Two conflicting beliefs (systems of thought) cannot both be right. Everyone will eventually believe in Jesus. Some of us have chosen to believe from here. Others will be forced to acknowledge the truth in the hereafter. If we really are Christians, we must love everyone. Sometimes that love has to be "tough love." We wouldn't be living according to Christ's teachings if we didn't try to evangelize - to preach the Gospel (Good News) to the world.
Anyone who disagrees, I love you, I want to see you in Heaven, but if you don't accept Jesus, you're going to spend eternity where neither of us wants to see you spend it (ouch!).

I'm Pagan, and I don't believe you're stupid for being Christian.
That said, some very noisy Christians do want to hold the rest of us up to their standards. (No Cosmopolitan magazines in check out lines, nothing "offensive" on the radio, no same-sex marriage, etc.) In those cases, it's particularly galling when the individual advocating these things can't live by their own standards.

Well, it does seem that atheists do condemn you for not following your religious beliefs - kinda ironic, IMHO.
As for thinking all Christians are the same (I'm an agnostic, FYI), there are small differences between them, but the overriding unifying factor is that they all believe in Christ, so, to a large degree, they are similar.

I feel you. But we as Christians can't shun away those who insult us, oppress us, or persecute us. Jesus didn't turn away Peter when He denied Him 3 times, instead He loved him; and He loved them hard. We have to do the same thing. But don't be insulting, if we don't want others to insult us. Don't badger them, if we don't want them to badger us. But keep pushing Jesus, because these are the last days on this earth and we need now more than ever to lead people to Christ.

The problem is, there are some Christians so out of it. That it seems they only understand what Atheism and Evolution is from the advice of a hobo down the street.
Which may I say turns out to be false and inconclusive yet they push it as truth.
it makes me sad :(

I'm Universalist / Pagan, I don't believe in punishing an entire group over the actions of a few.... I respect anyone who persues thier path with dedicaton, understanding and respect. It's too bad when people act that way regardless of what thier spiritual path is.... unfortunate...

I have leared that Athist are more God haters than non believers, but everyone is intitled to their own beliefs.
But non believers I think put use Christians in the spot light just to see if we "walk and talk" the Christian life. Just to see when we fall, stumpel, or skrow up in ouw walk with Christ.

I think it's wrong to stereotype all Christians, and its okay to say you're a Christian as long as you don't tell me I'm going to hell and impose "Christian" laws on the rest of us.

There will always be people like that, don't let it get to you.
All of Jesus disciples were persecuted and so was Jesus.
Jesus said the world hated him and if you follow his ways the world will hate you too, So rejoice in that, if the world hates you like they did Jesus it just shows he lives in you.
God bless.
