Just read the Nutrition Label. Most of what you need to know is right there. -- Buy no food that has more than 3 grams of total fat per 100 calories. Buy no food that has more than 1 gram of saturated fat per 100 calories. Fiber is good; sugar is not. As for recipes and meal plans, go on-line to The Mayo Clinic, the American Heart Association, and the American Diabetes Association and look around. It's free, and not influenced by advertisers.

This is the usual stuff i get, although I'm a vegetarian I'm sure you could replace the quorn with lean meat etc.

Lean protein - chicken breast, fish, nuts/seeds/beans
Fruits and veggies - whatever you like
Diary - low fat milk, yogurt, smoothies (either to make or premade)
Whole grains
