If so, please describe what they taste like and what makes them so fabulous (other than the price). I fear I will never have them and would like to know what they are like. Could you share too where you have had them?

fois groise is probably spelled wrong, but it's fattened duck liver I believe.

I've had both.

My husband is French and his family sometimes has foie gras on special ocasions like Christmas or whatever. I like it. It's like liver pate, but the texture is much smoother and it's more solid. It's especially good served cool on a warm slice of toast with a dab of fig jam.

Truffles I tried while working at a gourmet food shop. I'm not a fan. They smell like c.u.m, and taste pretty much the way they smell... (this is cause they actually contain the plant version of testosterone...ew) I have had dishes made with a drop of truffle oil that were really good, but the truffle was used to enhance other flavours, and not to be tasted on its own.

If you get a chance to try them, do, but if not, you're not missing out on too much. There are other things out there which taste just as good and are much more reasonably priced!

Fois gras is an acquired taste...not my thing. The whole concept is not too appetizing. I have had truffles and they are truly delicious. They intensify the flavor of a food and make it very rich. They are extremely expensive but are really worth it for a very fancy meal. I had them at a friend's mother's wedding. Truffle oil is a great fill-in for real truffles and you get a similiar flavor-effect

It taste like liver... buy a can of devils food liver and that will give you some what of an idea. However, it's a little better tasting. I love it, but hate the idea of how they get it. It's goose liver pate. Try any pate and it should be some what comparable.

I don't care for liver in any form so I can't go there but I have had truffles and the flavor is wonderful. I have had them as the base for sauces, mostly on beef dishes, and in better restaurants.
