I have an indoor only cat. I was wondering how often I should give him a bath. Is once a month to often?

I forgot to mention that my apartment has lots of plants. Which he likes to knock over and roll around in. Also my husband is a mechanic who sometimes tracks oil into the house. Spike loves to roll on anything he is not supposed to. I tried to the pet wipes and those don't aways get the smell out

Also he doesn't mind water. As long as I don't try to dry him

My cats used to dig up my plants, too... I put a bit of garden fabric on top of the soil, and then covered it with river rocks or the glass pebbles you can get from craft or dollar stores, Makes the plants very pretty, and has a texture the cat won't be as interested in.. I would also, in your case, see if we could train the hubby to leave the oily shoes or boots on a mat by the front door. (hard to say, though, I know my hubby can be the hardest critter in my house to train... ;-) ) If you can keep the greasy clothes from work well contained in a hamper, you might be able to keep the cat out of them...

But in all honesty... if your baby is getting into oily footprints, and oily clothes, she could be doing one of two things, either trying to mask an odd unfamiliar scent with her own, or she loves the hubby to death, and is claiming him by covering herself with his scent. And really, neither of these would be solved by bathing her. See if she seems drawn to the scent, and if so, either really clean up your act with containing the oily residue in the house, and work on exposing her to "more agreeable" aspects of your hubby's scent... let her wallow in a shirt he has worked out in, or a towel that smells of his shampoo and after shave, Or just get used to the fact that she adores her blue-collar daddy, and wants to be like him, and love her for it!

Good Luck!

you need to wash only as often as he is dirty. Petting him should remove any debri from the plants, thats not a problem. The oil or grease from your house could be.

A moisturizing shampoo would be your best idea, no need to use the flea shampoo, as it as extremely drying. People who send their cats to the groomers do so about every 8 weeks depending on the reason they are being groomed. Too much washing removes the protective oils in their coat.

Up to you on the condition of the coat. Indoor cats aren't exposed as much as an out door cat, who say sits underneath a car and gets oily. I doubt the things he rolls in in your house are as dirty as the outdoors. So go ahead if you'd like every so often doesn't hurt. Some cats even like the warm water and the massage they get with it. My daughter takes hers in the shower with her, and he just sits there with her... they are very close and silly!

Baths In general aren't good for cats at all. It robs the natural oils produced in their skin. I advise that you only bathe your cat when absolutely necessary. Pet wipes are a good idea if necessary because, Let me tell you.. they will not go down w/o a fight lol! Cats are some of the cleanest pets a person can own because they bathe themselves so I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you, good luck!

I'm wondering more WHY you would bath a cat rather than how often. Cats are generally clean animals - if they're not grooming themselves, they're usually ill or depressed. Or longhaired and needing you to COMB them daily, not bath.

If it's to prevent fleas, bathing does nothing. The fleas will just hold on to the fur and laugh at you. Or they'll hop off while you're bathing, hide in the carpet and hop back on when kitty is dry! The only surefire way to treat and prevent fleas is to use a veterinary preparation (not a petshop one).

I have cats aged 13-15 years old and none has ever had a bath nor needed one.

Once a month is definitely too often - twice a year at most. A healthy cat does not smell and a house cat certainly doesn't get dirty enough to need bathing.

I have an indoor cat & usually only use the wet wipes on her. That is actually the only thing she will let me do. If I get her near the bath or sink she completely freaks out & starts clawing me & scratching me. I had scars on my arms before so bad that I had people comment thinking I had tried to commit suicide (no joke). But it depends on your animal, a short haired cat will need washing less frequently then a long haired.

My cats won't let me wash them so so use this great foam that you rub all over them and then brush off - towel dry and your done - easy peasy

Pet shop will sell it. I normally clean and clip their claws once a month and groom them with a brush every 2 weeks

it's good 2 bathe the cat once in a while, especially if it has fleas, ticks, dandruff, or it just plain stinx. i would do it once a month or 2, but only if it really stinx, and i mean, REALLY stinx. ur cat likes rolling in ur neighbor's flower beds, give it a bath, ur cat jumped in a dumpster, bathe it, if ur cat just peed and pooed all on itself 4 some reason, BATHE IT!....get it?

Ummm... I only give my cats baths every 4 months. A month is very much to often unless it gets weird stuff on it (feces, vomit, dirt).
