I have a friend who is a Cohen.

that would mean he is from the tribe of Levi

He has the family tradition and the DNA to prove it.

If I do come from a tribe it would be the Jesus Freak for life tribe. No I can't trace my tribe to anyone living today.

The Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians of New Jersey.

Both of my fathers parents were members (and I believe that all of my g-grandparents were members). But I can barely trace my family back to my g-grandparents. It gets lost in the marshlands of New Jersey and written records weren't kept very well since they weren't allowed to own land, vote, and sometimes weren't even considered as "people". They tried to "pass" so that they could work and try to provide for their families. Most of the history is totally lost :-(
