A better question is: when will they be able to make the 'Sizzler' missile robust enough to actually fly the entire distance without crashing?

Contrary to popular belief,

The sizzler is a sub sonic cruise missile.

It only goes super sonic during the last 10 KM terminial guidence phase.

It has a max range of around 300km.

US Navy ships have seveal types of supersonic anti missile missiles with ranges in excess of 50km.

So the point being, it would be hard for any craft to get within 300km to launch a sizzler.

And even if they did, either Navy aircraft or Navy anti missile missiles would have plenty of time to shoot a sizzler down while it was still in sub sonic flight.

The Sizzler has yet to be proven. It basically is a SCUD missle as far as speed, accuracy, power and dependability goes.

They have had a system that can do that, since the late 1970s -- it's called the Phalanx.
