Even though MANY do not agree with WHAT he did, it has been said by many well respected theologians not of the Mormon faith that Joseph Smith did create (at the very least) a discussion about Christianity. Now, was this the GREATEST contribution to mankind? I don't know, in the history of the world, there have been many who created many VERY significant contributions.
I have narrowed my list to three (in order of appearance on the planet) Adam, Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith (I'm Mormon. He's gonna make the list). Of those three, I have to say that Jesus Christ did more for mankind than any other person or group of persons, religious or not. You can't really put a price on what He did for us - especially if you consider He did it knowing that many would reject it and yet He still did it for them.

The greatest contribution to humanity is the US Constitution. The founding fathers were truly inspired when the came together and formed the United States. Now if we can just keep it together and live up to those ideals.

Muslims because the Muslim invented democracy(Stolen by the Greeks), perfected the Roman Numeral System(otherwise there would be no math today), made lots of scientific and technological advances, and a Muslim wrote the first book on Medicine. Not to mention lots of other things that I can't think of right now.
