It is very important, 1. It is the Messiah Concealed OT, and Messiah Revealed in New Testament. 2. All the Feasts were "Rehearsals" of what Messiah would do when He came. 3. Many of the scriptures were "Types" of Messiah IE: Sacrifice of Issac a. he carried wood to top of Mt Moriah, as did Jesus. b. Jonah dead in fish's belly, as Jesus was in tomb for 3 days, and 3 nights. Jesus' own words said, "You think you do well in searching the Scriptures for in that you think you have salvation. But these are they that speak of Me."

The Bible is a progressive revelation. If you skip the first half of any good book and try to finish it; you will have a hard time understanding the characters, the plot, and the ending. Even so, the New Testament is only completely understood when it is seen as being built upon the foundation of the events, characters, laws, sacrificial system, covenants, and promises of the Old Testament (OT). If we only had the New Testament (NT), we would come to the gospels and not know why the Jews were looking for a Messiah (a Savior King). Without the OT, we would not understand why this Messiah was coming (see Isaiah 53); we would not have been able to identify Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah through the many detailed prophecies that were given concerning Him (e.g.., His birth place (Micah 5:2); His manner of death (Psalm 22, especially vv. 1,7-8, 14-18; Psalm 69:21, etc.), His resurrection (Psalm 16:10), and many more details of His ministry (Isaiah 52:13f.; 9:2, etc.).

The old testament basically sets the stage for Jesus. There are prophecies all throughout the O.T. talking about Jesus, and even what things will be like in the end times. The New testament is just part of the story (not to lessen it's importance! The whole Bible is important!). Without the Old Testament, it would be hard to understand fully where God was coming from when it came to Jesus.

1.) Jesus obviously thought the Old Testament scriptures were important.
2.) The Old Testament lays out the process of the old convenant (the one that requires sacrifical offerings, etc.). In order to understand the new covenant (the one where Jesus's blood covers our sins), we have to understand where we came from.
3.) The coming of the Christ was predicted by many prophets, as noted in the Old Testament.
4.) The stories in the Old Testament give us insight into the type of God we serve and worship.

If Jesus is the fulfillment of the regulation (Torah) then shouldn't they be versed on what the regulation involves? If Jesus grew to become right into a Hebrew and Christians are meant to emulate Jesus shouldn't they be cognizant of the custom wherein he grew to become into raised? Jesus grew to become right into a student of the regulation, the Prophets and the Writings that's for those of yoy who're unaware is the 1st 5 books of the previous testomony, the books of important and minor prophets and all the writings such because of the fact the e book of Ruth, Kings, Chronicles,Ecclesiastes, track of Solomon, and so on. The Jews call the previous testomony the TaNaKh that's a form of acronym for Torah, Nevi'im and Ketuvim, that's regulation, Prophets and Writings. And right it is the great clue: we are attentive to the Magi in new testomony yet what's their connection to Abraham and Ur of Chaldees and what's the meaning and etymology of the be conscious Genesis and what does that could desire to do with "And those are the generations of the Heavens..." Why are there 12 Sons of Israel (Jacob). And maximum mandatory why did anybody continually pass into Egypt while there grew to become right into a subject? look at those issues to their end and you will discover out so lots extra suitable than you think of. Christianity at it is center is a photograph voltaic cult and added learn into the Torah (first 5 books of the previous testomony) will exhibit this. As a Son/sunlight (famous person) of Heaven Jesus grew to become into and we are all stars too.

You're ASKING for opinions. If you are a Christian, then it is important for you to learn about the Old Testament because it is the basis of your religion. Without the Old Testament, there would be no New Testament.

The Old Testament, the New Testament, and other books of scripture tell us about our past. The people of that time had the same feelings, thoughts, and challenges that we have and they left of record of their laws, beliefs, and actions so that we could learn from their mistakes.
We learn this information in the hopes that when we face trials of our own, we will be able to face them with a little dignity and with the knowledge of the prophets of God that are contained in the Old Testament to help us make good decisions.
You also read these scriptures as this act of obedience will help you to become closer to God by learning about Him and by following His will. This brings the spirit of learning into your reading and you will be able to understand more clearly the lessons contained in the scriptures.
The Old Testament is one of the most difficult to get through, but it does have a lot to teach us. Good luck.

I am currently reading the bible for the second time. I can tell you this, reading the old testament the second time around. I really identified with all of the old testament characters. Joseph, and Esther for their courage. Ruth for her commitment. Job for his faith, after all the hell he went through. Rahab, for her faith, and the fact that she was a prostitute. She was still an ancestor of Jesus Christ. You see all their character flaws, and that God was still able to use them for his plan. It shows us in this day an time we all go through the same things and have the same issues they had way back when! It helped me to identify Gods love for me despite everything else!
God is good!

The Old Testament points our way toward the coming of Christ and all that He would do and endure. It was a promise of the great things to come!! Aside from that, it is also our history.
