There were so many technological advancements made during that war, it's hard to know just where to begin.
It was the dawning of the battle tank and the twilight of the calvary. Gen. Patton was a calavary man until he went to France and saw the great potential. Patton later went on to command in WWII and gained world fame as being the greatest tanker short of Irwin Rommel.
WW I also so the introduction of the airplane as a fighting platform. Not taken seriously at first by the commanders on the ground, the airplane actually contributed very little to the war in the overall scheme of things. Think about it though, between 1903 and 1914, the airplane went from being such an oddity that was barely manageble in flight, to being a machine that was capable of traversing great distances with moderate payloads.
You could look at the Schleffen Plan and how the German commanders in the field royally screwed things up by turning early.
You could look at the Battle of The Somme. Probably one of the bloodiest battles in all of history. Or of the 94,000 men a month that lost their lives in WW I (all combatant countries combined).
In WW II, you could look at the advances in aviation and the tank. That Patton, while driving the American 3d Army across France in 1944, lost on average 1300 men every three weeks.
But I suspect, that if you REALLY want to impress and go for the ultimate grade, you should look up the failed beach assault at Galipoli in WW I. Winston Churchill was incharge... If ever you wanted to get him to shut up and sit down (in the House of Commons) all you need do was mention "Galipoli."

There are several topics, but a good one is how the Leadership of the Allies was very different than the Nazi's...which helped the Allies carry the day on D-Day...Here is where you can start...in the German Army Field Leaders had to get direction from Berlin, so a Junior Officer or Non-Commissioned Officer could not make a decision without asking the higher ups....which slowed the German's reaction time to the invasion...on the other hand every Allied soldier knew everyone else's job and mission, so like when the jumps were scattered in the Airborne jumps in to Normandy...the invasion went ahead, even without senior leadership...you can do a scale model of Normandy and show how the lack of communication and leadership hurt the Germans and ultimately defeated them...hope this helps...

Well if you had to make a scale model I have a couple of ideas that would blow trench warfare out of the water.
1. You could do a model of the WWII D-Day invasion, but you should only do one of the beachheads like Omaha--this would be really cool--See Saving Private Ryan, The Longest Day, or countless history channel episodes for visuals
2. You could do a model of the WWII battle of Stalingrad
3. If not the D-Day invasion you could do a scale model of the Hedgerow country in France that greeted our troops after the beachhead

Write about the most brilliant guy in WW2...George C Marshall.

Marshall single-handed transformed the American Armed Forces from its traditional provincial guard/police force, into a huge, well equipped, battle winning force in something like 12 months.

It has to be remembered that Pearl Harbor happened in Dec 1941. By Fall of 1942, we made landing in North Africa and had already beaten the Japanese at Midway and landed on Guadalcanal. most of the ground and airforces in both campaigns were newly built.

I wrote a 9 page paper last night on the development of weaponry in WWI.

You could write books about that. It wouldn't be hard to make models comparing the old tactics to the new tactics machine guns and tanks brought to the battlefeild.

I think your question should read" how does a mere painter and decorator get an entire country (Germany) to follow him after his own country Austria would not, yet then manage to gain power over his home country. As I am sure you know the painter and decorator I am talking about is an Austrian named Hitler who was to say the least mentally unbalanced. When you can answer that then you have the cause of WWII Lenny! The USSR Were never alies to Germany they were in fact invaded by Germany, which was a big supprise to Stalin as the Russian army was a real mess at that time. I know they were alies as my mum was Austrian and it was the USSR who liberated her. In saying that though they were vry cruel and my mum said that her mum hid her as the USSR troops raped young girls they liberated
