Your daughter-in-law's baby is your grandchild by your son. Maybe...."The daddy ain't de daddy, but de daddy don't know!"
You asked.

Well this isn't going to be a popular answer on here looking at some of the others, but if your DIL had another man's baby, the baby would have been born with that color skin. Period. The baby wouldn't be "turning" brown. When was the last time your heard of someone changing their skin color (other than make-up or tanning), especially a newborn.

Genetically, either your son or you DIL has a heritage with a darker skin tone. If that turns out not to be the case and you're all Scandinavian flaxen blond, then you might want to suggest a visit to the pediatrician and look up info and disorders that cause melanin imbalance (that's the brown pigment in EVERYONE'S skin responsible for taning, or lack thereof).

Don't go over anymore.. Better she have honest feelings of affection and respect to all of you , than the negative ones displayed, and children at a young age can sense as time goes on. My mom was that way with my children and the dotting grandmother with my brothers. This is her problem, not yours.. you seem caring and loving.. YOUR family is first, not her.. it is sad when any parent , or grandparent acts this way.. chalk it up as a learning lesson in life. talk to your husband honestly about your hurt, if he doesn't understand, talk till do.. he needs to support you first in this.. you are the family now to consider first.. remember cleave to each other.. and none other... that means not letting his parents be first concern. My ex mother in law wasn't a jewel either. they thought money was the answer to everything and bought them rights to be critical and demanding. I made the boundaries clear, perhaps telling her you noticed the distance and ask her why, when she seems to be so supportive and able with the daughters new baby coming.. then there are no misconceptions over what is going on. good luck..

Nothing is wrong with the baby. Having darker skin color doesnt mean anything is wrong.. wow.

Being entirely serious: may not be your son's baby. Or the baby has some genes from an earlier relative because that can happen. Maybe a grandparent of your daughter in law has darker skin. Need to talk to her about that though but nothing to fret over, thats what being an American is about.

The first & most immediate conclusion would be that the baby has a mystery daddy; however, there are skin conditions which can cause this type of thing too. You might want to suggest to your son that they take their baby to a pediatrician. Also, you say she's white, but is her whole family white? Sometimes people look like one race, but have slight genetic influence from another race, and that can sometimes become the dominant feature in the baby.

.Isn't it your son's baby too????
.The baby may really be turning yellow because of a high bilirubin count in blood..happens due to delayed function of liver & needs medical attention . Many newborn suffer from this & can benefit from a simple treatment consisting of exposure to flourescent lights having UV . Sunlight can also give dramatic results to exposed areas of skin. My grandson had mild case & was exposed to sunlight only on arms/face & showed marked difference after 30 minutes between exposed & unexposed skin.
This was followed by DR visit...

OMG, that would be your grandbaby for heaven sakes, no matter whether you get along or not and if you have an issue saying that maybe you should have a reality check. I don't care for my ex-mother-in-law but she is my baby's grandmother and I wouldn't disrespect her like that.

As far as the baby goes, if there is something wrong have her take him to the doctors and have him checked out.. Life is to short for heaven sakes..

My ex husband and I are white..one of our sons has tan skin all year round (lucky boy). There is some indian in the family tree..maybe it skipped a generation or so. My son always asks if he was adopted or if he is part mexican. But no he's our kid and just happened to have darker skin. But in this day and age you never know. Was the baby ever jaundice? At this age babies always have weird kinds of stuff going on with the skin. I'd check for jaundice.

Maybe you have the wrong father or maybe it is just a recessive gene coming out. Some people might end up a darker or lighter skin color that their parents. Totally normal. Although if you are concerned about the child's health, you may want to take the baby to your family doctor to get it checked out. I am sure everything is fine though. :)

Tell her to stop leaving him out in the sun. I know this is a wind-up, especially since you said your daughter-in-laws baby, not your son's. You slipped up there
