Don't bother doing it. I daresay it can wash fleas off in the occasional circumstance - but it won't prevent them.
Instead get a spot-on from a veterinary practice (not a petshop, these are even less useful than dish soap). They work (when applied to the SKIN, part the fur so they don't end up on the fur) and are a lot less hassle than bathing a cat. Cats do not like baths! There is absolutely no need or point in bathing a cat with fleas.
Note: if you have a pet with fleas, they WILL be in your carpets as well. You therefore need to get a housespray from the vets to get them out your carpet and ultimately break the lifecycle of the flea. Once you've done this, 6-weekly treatment of your cat with Frontline Combo/Plus will keep the fleas off both your cat and your house.
Flea collars only work if the flea walks over the collar.
Flea shampoos are a hassle and often do not work.
Flea tablets from petshops rarely work - they are more of a preventative method than a treatment.

I wouldn't suggest using any soap on a pet unless it is specifically an animal soap. Go to the local pet shop and buy flea tablets or a flea collar. Though do not use the two together as this could cause an overdose. They both kill fleas and prevent future ones, though you do have to repeat the dose/replace them every so often, it'll say on the label. I also reccomend getting some flea powder for your house as it kills fleas from your furniture and hoovers up. Hope i have helped.

NO! That could harm your cat. Give your cat a bath with cat shampoo and use Feline Advantage 24 hours after. Advantage will kill all of the fleas within 12 hours and will stay away for a month.

I have never heard of Dawn working to kill fleas...your best bet would be to get a product from your vet. Many of the product sold in pet stores are not of the same strength and will not work as well!

No! dawn soap does not kill fleas and certainly not the eggs. Buy Advantage and put that on its coat, works very well. Other flea products like advantage are frontline and resolution, I buy mine online, it is cheaper than from the vet.

Uh..I don't think that will work but you should go to a pet shop and buy some heavy duty shampoo for the kitty if its that serious. If fleas come back, keep cleaning, brushin, wiping, and combing his/her coat.

it could but it would really strip the oils from the coat. Just buy a flea and tick shampoo.
