I mean do u think that other kids who are troubled will look at him and think that hegot famous so we could too? I think that it should not have been announced to the world. I mean we need to hear about it, but the man should not be pronounced over and over again.

What is your view on this?

you make a good point, and i agree to some degree (haha that rhymes - sorry this is a serious topic) however the US and the rest of the world runs on money and things that make money are identities of killers. people are nosy.

When you commit a crime, especially a horrific one, I believe the public has a right to know who you are. The sad thing is however, that there are I believe about 300 or so Asian students on the campus of Virginia Tech and I read in the news that these students go places together because they fear being singled out due to the race because of what the shooter did. In that instance, then no, it wasn't good to reveal the shooter's name. My heart not only goes out to those who were shot, but to their families and friends, and also to the loved ones of the shooter himself. I also feel for the country of Korea who views this act as a poor reflection upon their own nation and are working hard to maintain good diplomatic relations in light of this tragedy, as well as in protecting their own Asian students who are in this country. The whole thing is sad, all the way around. I believe the identity of a killer or other dangerous person should be released in the name of public safety unless of course it could harm others in the process. Even then, one has to be careful to avoid censorship with the release of public information.

`People whose minds are sound can deal with personal problems in a much more acceptable way than the VT murderer did. I don't think knowing or not knowing his name will make any difference. I think the problem is the way society shuns people who appear to have emotional or mental problems. What they need is help. I'm not suggesting that most people are capable of giving appropriate help but ANYONE is capable of reporting questionable behavior to the proper authorities so that the person at least has a chance to get the help they need.

I don't think the kid's at Virginia Tech are thinking this guy is famous... probably much the opposite. Imagine how this will affect them for the rest of their lives? Sad, horrible tragedy...Let's pray together for the people of the world.

If that was my son who was responsible for the shootings, and they announced his name on national T.V. and radio, I would want to run and hide in shame.

I guess the media feels the public has the right to know.

I think it's a waste of time even discussing his name, who he was, and what his motive may have been. The media should spend their energy discussing the lives, hopes and dreams of those who lost their lives in this terrrible tragedy.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

To release the name helps in the healing process. Now that we know who he is we can pray for his family. Now that the mystery is solved a lot of the fear is gone. He was a real person with a real name and we have nothing to fear.

I don't care about the name or even the nationality - the why and what clues he left that he might do something are more interesting and, yes, imho, worth looking into.

I wanted to know who did this. And most of America did too. No one can fathom how someone could ever do this and any details on that people wanted to know!!!
