Isn't pilates created around this principle? Anybody know the answer?

it is a myth...

you can not change the shape of a muscle, that is determined by genetics. only the size of the muscle can be influenced by the diet and exercise. to change the length of a muscle the insertion point where it attaches to the tendons would have to be changed. tendons are the physical connection of muscle to bone
