Basically it's a rotten uterus. Luckily it's leaking/ open. If it were closed, she would die. Yes she does need surgery, probably a spay or it can happen again. After the surgery, she'll need antibiotics and rest.

My old dog had pyrometra and died...she was only 6 months old, and we didnt notice anything was wrong...=/ Don't let your dog die, no dog deserves to die of this here is what it is...

"The term means pus in the uterus. Any time a veterinarian is presented with a dog or cat suffering from pyometra the condition is considered serious and immediate surgery is nearly always indicated. This pus formation in the uterus results from infection, hormone imbalance or mucous buildup inside the uterus. Most dogs and cats suffering from pyometra are presented because of loss of energy, increased thirst and poor appetite. Plus a good tip-off would be a foul smelling, purulent (means pus) vaginal discharge. Most of the cases of pyometra I've seen in dogs occurred about six weeks after the *****'s last heat cycle. They may not look it on the outside, but on the inside these dogs are really sick! If that swollen, enlarged uterus happens to rupture internally, the dog will rapidly go into endotoxic shock and whatever the veterinarian does may not be enough to save the dog."----thepetcenter.com

believe Dec... have not study all of that yet while your canines does have pyometra then definite it incredibly is an emergency. The urgency relies upon on in spite of if it incredibly is an open or closed - open being while the pus is draining from the physique and closed being while it incredibly is staying in the uterus. With an open some vets want to attempt antibiotics in the past surgical operation as establishing a womb complete of pus would reason extra issues. it incredibly is a condition the place you have days to get this taken care of in the past dropping the canines and in spite of if spayed or no longer on the time, the canines might want to be executed in the past the subsequent season. definite it incredibly is an fantastically undesirable situation.

Pyometra is a serious infection caused by hormonal changes in the uterus. Pus builds up in the uterus and can cause smelly and bloody discharge. The only sure way to cure it is surgery, which would be a spaying procedure. I know surgery sounds scary, and there are risks, but its the most effective treatment. If you cannot afford surgery, an alternative could be to have your dog put on lonterm antibiotics, which may slow down the infection. Good luck, and I hope your dog gets better.

Pyometria is a VERY serious uterine infection. It is fatal if left untreated. The longer a female is left unspayed the higher her risk becomes of getting pyometria.
To answer your question YES your dog does NEED surgery ASAP in order to save her life.

When she has the surgery she WILL be spayed. This is an emergency surgery..If she had been spayed before she ever went into heat she would not have gotten pyo.

Pyometra is a dangerous infection of the uterus and the only way to cure it is surgery. Without it, your dog will die. The surgery is in effect a spay.

Get it done fast if you want your dog to survive.

She needs surgery and quickly before she becomes septic unless you want her to die. Pyometra is a life-threatening infection of the uterus. Most often occurs a month or two after she's been in heat. The dogs are very, very ill and need antibiotics and surgery to prevent their death.

Pyometra is a potentially DEADLY uterine infection. Basically, the uterus fills up with bacteria and pus, and may rupture INSIDE your dog if it isn't treated immediately.

Your vet is absolutely right! You need to have that surgery done ASAP!

This is something that happens when a female dog or cat is not fixed and their uterus fills up with puss. It is much like a burst appendix in a human. If the surgery is not done the animal will die. I have had one cat that had this and is cost me over 500.00 to save her life. She was only 6 months old and scheduled to get fixed. this hap pend right before she went in. Good luck and act fast!!! They have no idea why some animals get it and some don't. Best thing to do is get your animals fixed as soon as possible

Good luck

The pyometra is an abscessed, pus-filled infected uterus. Toxins and bacteria leak across the uterine walls and into the bloodstream causing life-threatening toxic effects, Without treatment death is inevitable.
