Cats can swim, but they don't like to. :D

From Wikipedia: "Although housecats generally do not like water, they can swim very well when necessary."

I'll tell you a story and you can judge for yourself. I was told this by a relative of mine. Her husband was a keen gardener and also had a boat which he would use on weekends to fish for mackeral and trout. This cat was a pest ,it kept destroying his plants so he managed to trap it , got into a bag and took it half mile out to sea an dumped it into the water. On the way back to shore a storm blew up and he was in considerable difficulty rowing back. When he got to shore-
( yes you guessed it) the cat was there before him with a grin on it's face like a true Cheshire. This story is true believe it or not!!!!!!!

Cats can swim very well. Not too long ago me and my cat took a walk down to our creek. While a vehicle was passing she got so scared she jumped into the water and swam to shore like any pro. I was so proud. That's why I say yes.

I'm not actually replying to you because that was a moronic question but....

...to all the people who think cats can't swim, they can! All mammals can, even the tiny ones. They're all designed to be able to for survival. It's only humans who have lost the natural ability to stay above water when they fall in!

Cats just don't like water - except Norwegian Forest Cats I think? There is a breed that likes it. And my sister's tortie, she loves water, there are always exceptions in every breed!

They really hate it but there is a breed of swimming cat I saw them on Blue Peter or similar a lot of years ago, I never forgot the sight!! Good luck, by the way, apparently pigs can't swim!

W.T.F. are you thinking!!! There are some cats that swim and not all cats hate water infact a friend of mine has a cat that like to have a shower when his owner does. My cat loves to jump into the bathtub to play in the water left over in the bottom from the shower. I think you need to start throwing fish in your pond and leave cats alone...

It relies upon on their upbringing. My relatives had a cat who did no longer recommendations water, like while she have been given a shower b/c she grew to become into given one periodically provided that she grew to become right into a kitten. it is all approximately exposure, IMHO. And for the checklist, cats CAN swim interior the water. in case you do not have faith me, watch a cat fall into the pool or a river, and so on. they seem pissed off, yet they "doggie paddle" and do exactly nice.

???? your questions are horrible

and by the way cats can swim they just dont like the water
i had a cat that loved the water and was a great swimmer
i just think that your questions are terrible --- first off you put one in a plactic bag and then tied a knot now you're saying you thrown them in ponds to watch if they sink or not??

they are probably sinking because you watched it die in the plastic bag first

For one i think that you shout wait until they get older but if you want to know if cats can swim. Yeah sure they can my mom used to throw them in my 5 foot pool they can swim fine. But if you want a real good swimming Buddie i would go get a retriever.
