Many drugs have multiple uses.
In this case Tegretol is the most common drug used to treat Trigeminal Neuralgia which is also similar to Bell's Palsy. The drug works on the nerve to help relieve pain in the eyes, lips, throat, jaw and cranial muscle spasms. My doctor has prescribed Neurontin and Klonapin to control both the pain and the ensuing anxiety.
During my worst attacks, I have found that cold packs help. I purchased two of the silver foil packs that are used to chill wine. I put one ice pack on my face or the side of my head. If the drugs and ice packs don't numb the pain, there's nothing like a nice well-chilled Chardonnay to relax you. (Seriously, you really shouldn't mix alcohol and antiseizure medications. Thus sip with caution.)
By all means, call your Pharmacist or Physician anytime you have questions about the drugs you have been prescribed.
Hope this helps.

Tegretol is a med for those who suffer from seizures. I don't know why your doctor would prescribe this to you but sometimes there are many different uses for meds. Call your doc or pharmacist before you begin taking them, I'd say. Hope this helps. Good luck!
