The case of the "unpardonable sin / unforgivable sin" or "blasphemy of the Holy Spirit" in the New Testament is mentioned in Mark 3:22-30 and in Matthew 12:22-32. The term blasphemy may be generally defined as "defiant irreverence." We would apply the term to such sins as cursing God or willfully degrading things relating to God. It is also attributing some evil to God, or denying Him some good that we should attribute to Him. This case of blasphemy however is a specific one, called "the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit" in Matthew 12:31. In Matthew 12:31-32 the Pharisees, having witnessed irrefutable proof that Jesus was working miracles in the power of the Holy Spirit, claimed instead that the Lord was possessed by the demon "Beelzebub" (Matthew 12:24). Now notice that in Mark 3:30 Jesus is very specific about what exactly they did to commit "the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit."
This blasphemy then has to do with someone accusing Jesus Christ (in person, on earth) of being demon-possessed. There are other ways to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, but this was "THE" blasphemy that was unpardonable. This means that this unpardonable sin against the Holy Spirit cannot be duplicated today because Jesus Christ is not on earth but seated at the right Hand of God; however, the Holy Spirit still accomplishes supernatural things through His servants. Although there is no unpardonable sin today, we should always keep in mind there is an unpardonable state-the state of continued unbelief. There is no pardon for a person who dies in unbelief. Remember, John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life." The only condition when someone would have no forgiveness is if that someone is not among the 'whoever believes in Him.'"

In Mat. 12:31 Jesus said that the one unforgiveable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. I believe this is a sincere rejection of the Holy Spirit by a previous believer. Heb. 6:4-6 talks about believers who fall away, i.e. reject God & the Holy Spirit, and how it is impossible to renew them again to repentence. I believe these two passages are related.

I had this same worry, but according to LDS prophets, most people are not capable of committing this sin. The unpardonable sin is when one REALLY KNOWS Jesus Christ/God - ie seen him in person, or had the spiritual equivalent - beyond doubt - and then they decide to become his enemy. In order to do this sin, someone would have to commit such a lie of the soul that they put their own spirits in a state beyond God's powers of redemption.
No-one can ever commit this sin by mistake, without knowing what they were doing. That's why its unforgivable. The fact that you've asked this question means you couldn't possibly commit this sin.
On the other hand, regular sin, of the forgivable kind, can still stop your eternal progression if you don't repent of it. :)

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the unpardonable sin in which a person ascribes the power to the powers of darkness, knowing full well that the Holy Spirit is performing a miracle through the power of God.
This is what the Pharisees did because they did not like competition from Christ.

Blasphemy of the holy spirit is an unforgivable sin so I heard.
According to Merriam - Webster dictionary the word "blasphemy" means "the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God; the act of claiming the attributes of deity; irreverence toward something considered sacred."
Can a Believer Commit the Unforgivable Sin?
No. A believer cannot commit the unforgivable sin. How can someone who has been born again (John 3:7), made a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17), and received eternal life (John 10:27-28) actually commit the unforgivable sin? He cannot. Jesus Himself said that we have eternal life, not conditional life: "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand." Besides, it says in 2 Cor. 5:17 that the Christian is a new creation in Christ. We are different, no longer slaves to the old nature (Rom. 6:14). We are regenerated by the Holy Spirit.
There is no biblical support for a believer committing this sin. It just hasn’t happened. Also, if you are worried that you may have committed the sin and can’t be forgiven, then don’t be concerned. If you are worrying about it, then you haven’t committed it. If you are worried about it, then that is a sign that you have not committed it. If you had, you wouldn’t be concerned.

OK KNIGHT There are two ways to blaspheme the holy spirit
One is to give credit for an act of the holy spirit to an evil/satanic entity .Still is forgivable.
2. NOT forgivable. To refuse to let the holy spirit work through you. EXAMPLE . Before Christ returns Satan arrives on earth for 5 months claiming to be god / Jesus. God's special people (elect) will be brought before Satan to be converted into believing that he is God. The elect are instructed by god not to premeditate what they will say to Satan or his minions because in that hour the Holy spirit will put in their minds what to say. And it will be irrefutable .
But if the elect refuse to say what the Holy spirit puts in their mind and instead says something else then that is blaspheming the Holy spirit in the worst way and is unforgivable in this world and the world to come.
So the unpardonable sin can only be committed by God's elect ,and only when the phony messiah comes to earth.

The "Holy Spirit" is an imaginary entity concocted to represent the unseen 'energy' between God and Jesus. The concept is even more absurd than regular "Spirit" since that is also something you can't see. As a religious concept the holy spirit serves its purpose in explaining a part of the christian doctrine, however, beyond simply being a concept it does not exist. You cannot commit any sin against something that does not exist. Stop worrying about sinning against things that don't exist and you will live a much longer and more enjoyable life. The "dreadful position" that you find yourself in is in believing all the horse-puckey that so called religious people try to use on you.

Yes, the "unforgivable sin" is blaspheming the Holy Spirit - but what does that mean? If God can forgive blaspheming of His name, surely He'll do the same for another part of His triune self?
I tend to side with Eugene Peterson, who interprets this verse as meaning that when we blaspheme the Holy Spirit, we are rejecting it. The Holy Spirits comes to believers, so, that means that our rejection of the Holy Spirit means are rejection of God, Jesus and his forgiveness.
Really, its not about an unforgivable sin. Its about our rejection of forgiveness. We are unforgiven when we choose not be forgiven.
What can God do about that? If we don't want to be with Him, He will grant that to us.

The Holy Spirit was sent to convict of sin. When the Holy Spirit convicts you and you refuse to respond-thats the sin that can not be forgiven. If you will not listen to the Holy Spirit-it is impossible for you to repent. If you do not repent-you can not be forgiven.
The Holy Spirit is God. Reject the Holy Spirit-you reject God.
