i dont even understand why civilians in the west need a gun.

i've never heard of gun being a problem in asian countries, and i honestly dont think having a gun would help the western country civilians.

perhaps the authorities ought to rethink their second amendment?

let me give you an economic term, the fallacy of composition.
definition: what is true for the individual may not be true for the society as a whole.
example: if i had a gun i would be better off in security, but if almost everyone had a gun whats the use of my gun?

Civilians owning guns is not the problem. I grew up around guns and an area where most had at least one gun. We never had any problems with guns or violence with guns.

The problem is when people do not know much about guns or criminals use guns.

Criminal have ways to make their own guns, so illegal guns will never be stopped.

You will only strip guns from people who would not misuse them if they had them.

Well... anyone familiar with the criminal element from the law enforcement sector knows that it doesn't matter what you do to try to put weapons out of reach, legally. If they want them, they will get them... and think about it, drug runners, Ibn Laden and so on have plenty enough dough to meet any price.
