Brandon, Nat, and Rob are driving along, and their car breaks down. They won't be able to get it repaired until the next day, so they go to a hotel.
Being cheap, they decide to split a single room. The girl at the desk says it costs $30, so they each pay $10, and head up to the room.
A short while later, the girl realizes the room was only $25, so she goes to the room and returns $5 to the guys.
They sit around a table, and place the $5 between them.
They each take $1 back.
So, having gotten a dollar back, now they've each payed $9, which makes a grand total of $27.
However, there is only $2 left on the table. The $27 and the $2 only at up to 29, not 30, so where did the extra dollar go?

u are adding it backwards. The total of $27 includes the $2 overpayment, so when you take 2 from 27 it equals 25

its all in the order of operations....start from what you had...
30 dollars...subtratct the 2 on the table is 28 minus the 3 that the guys took and then the cost of the room which is 25.
or add...the 2 dollars on the table plus the 3 dollars the guys took then the cost of the room...25 dollars. 2+3+25=30

The sum is as follows:
Among the $27 25 is given to the girl three is returned to the boys and two is left on the table.
3*9{$25 given to girl & $2 on the table} +3{returned back}=30

9 Is an odd # as 10 is not so when you add it up then add the 2 on the table you will be short a dollar from what you started with.

You can't do it like that. You have to think of it as they paid a toal of $27, and then there was $2 left. 27-2=25, the cost of the room.

You're looking at it backwards. Think $27 minus $2 = $25.

25 divided by 3 is 8.3 repeated....so youve got 25 plus they each take a dollar that makes 28 not 27 so....28+2=30

Youre all wrong, the point in this question is that the order of operations is incorrect.
