Here are your choices:
1. Talk / bargin your way out of it.
2. Hide
3. Escape
4. Distract your opponent.
5. Aim well and shoot fast (It's not the size of the gun that matters, but the accuracy of the aim and/or who pulls the trigger first.)
6. Die
Choices 1, 2, 3 and 4 are the best, if feasable. Choices 5 or 6 are used only when there is no other option.

Then be a better shot. Most gun battles happen within 21 feet - aiming poorly with a hand cannon isn't as effective as aiming well with a small caliber weapon. And remember: there's no second place in a gunfight.

That is always a possibility...but if you don't have any gun then you don't have any chance.
At least with a less powerful gun, it may come down to marksmanship.

Its not the size of the gun that matters. Its how you aim that counts! I have a sling shot, and I'm really sneaky.
