Go to the vet. Get it looked and and treated. Don't practice medicine without a license.

You need to find out WHY there is a problem before treating it.

The dog will need an ear culture from the vet to find out what is going on. Without the culture, you can spend lots of money and put the dog through lots of pain without having an effect if treating the problem with the wrong medication. Some ear infections are caused by yeast. Some by bacteria. Some by a foreign object (such as seed of grass) in the ear.

Have the tests done and follow your vet's advice for treatment.

Once the infection is cleared up, you may need to clean your dog's ears regularly at home with a cleaner made for dogs' ears in order to prevent further problems. Some dogs are helped tremendously by diet changes-- I've seen dogs with chronic ear infections symptom-free on a quality food that does not contain any corn, soy, or by-products.

There are many homemade cleaners that can be used (witch hazel, listerine, apple cider vinegar, etc.) but you need to clear up the current problem first and find out why the infection is there. Most won't work on certain types of infection, they serve as a cleaner to prevent problems in a healthy ear. A severe ear infection will cost your dog his hearing and possibly his life if left untreated, not to mention it is excruciatingly painful for the dog.

What is draining from your dogs ear? If he has what is called "earmite dirt" your dog will have what looks like black dirt in his ear. If this is the case go to pet store/dept store and get earmite medication, It is otc medication so you dont need a script. If your dogs ear is draining any kind of actual drainage( could also have a odor too, but may not) I would get your dog to the vet asap because an infection could be dangerous if it spreads untreated. An untreated ear infection at best could cause your dog deafness if the eardrum ruptures from pressure from the infection. Worse case scenerio is the infection could spread thru out system and kill you dog. Its not worth the risk to save a few dollars by not taking your dog to the vet. I hope after a vistit to the vet your dog is better. Good luck.

Infections need antibiotics to help clear them up. Home remedies will not work.

If you're dogs ears are indeed infected (a doctor's diagnosis, not your own), then he would have given you ear drops to help clear up the infection.

This is definitely not something to fool around with as it could lead to other major problems, including your pet going deaf. Go to the vet, let him diagnose the problem and give you proper medication.

Your vet will need to prescribe antibiotics to clear up any current infection. To help prevent later infections, rubbing alcohol will help keep your dog's ears dry. Wet a cotton ball with some, and wipe his or her ears out with it.

I'm afraid you are just going to have to take your dog to the vet. They can give your dog antibiotics to clear up the current infection and some drops to keep future ones at bay.
